Silverton is a small mountain town nestled at 9,318ft in Southwest Colorado amongst some of the steepest most rugged terrain in the continental United States. In the winter extreme skiers and riders flock to the town and it’s surrounding slopes. Backcountry skiers will undoubtedly recognize the area from Warren Miller films and the reputation of town’s “ski resort” Silverton Mountain.

The wild west flavor of the town lives on and is host each year to film crews for movies and commercials shot in town and in the surrounding rugged terrain.

The Avon was built in 1904 when the town was very much an operational gold mining town. The building came into our lives in 2017 after a summer time visit. At that time the business was closed and the building in need of renovation. Today The Avon is a basecamp for adventurers in all seasons. Welcoming visitors for world class skiing, off-roading, and as a resting point for weary hikers on the Continental Divide Trail.

We’ve brought the building up to date, but there will be little doubt that you are in a building from the early 1900s. Maintaining the history and charm of the building was a top priority to us.

Restoring The Avon is the brainchild of Daniel who fell in love with the San Juan Mountains and Silverton through annual winter ski trips. When he noticed the "For Sale" sign hanging on the aging brick building the seed was planted. Dan saw the potential for a thriving establishment in the aging shell of the historic property and has worked diligently to make this a reality.

As the behind scene driver of social media and website content for The Avon; Seth leverages his experience and the camera glued to his hands to broadcast the beauty of our home here in the San Juan Mountains. He spent the early years of his professional life working in hospitality before moving over to the technology field. In early 2016 he joined The Avon team to help build the business plan and dream up the vision that we've built.
